Obituary

My wife, our mother and grandmother, Shirley Arlene Koehn was born to Jesse and Frances (Yost) Schmidt on May 9, 1941 in Gray County Kansas. She peacefully passed away in the early morning hours of Oct. 4 th 2018, at the Fairview Fellowship Home reaching the age of 77 years.

She grew up on the farm northwest of Montezuma, learning the homemaking skills of cooking, cleaning, and laundry, which she enjoyed as long as her health permitted.

She was converted at an early age and enjoyed Christian life for a short time. She encountered challenges that made it hard to cope with life. In youth years she enjoyed spending some time in the Mexico mission before her marriage to me, Rodney Koehn on Oct. 27, 1963. We were married almost 55 years. We were blessed with a daughter and a son.

Mother had a pleasant and sweet personality, easily making friends. She loved singing, receiving inspiration from it.

We as a family enjoyed many pleasant times together – going on picnics to the nearby lakes and parks, and eating out, especially at Meade Pizza Hut. Mom enjoyed spending time with her family and did the best she could for them.

Mom spent the last 13 years in other facilities. During this time Dad faithfully showed his love for her by the many miles and much time he spent with her. In the last months we believe God blessed Mom with a great measure of rest and healing.

Those left to cherish her memories are her husband Rodney Koehn of Montezuma, daughter Regina and husband Monte Schmidt of Fairview OK; Son Ron and wife Keri of Fort Sumner, New Mexico; six  grandchildren, Kale, Audree, Landon, Micah, Keelan, and Londi;  five brothers, Elwin, Laurel, Kenneth, Robert and David; and two sisters, Ruth and Carolyn.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral service will be held at Homeland Mennonite Church, Montezuma on Monday October 8, 2018 at 10:30 AM with Ministers Donnie Koehn, Lyndon Toews, and Luther Smith presiding. Burial will follow at Homeland Mennonite Cemetery. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel, Montezuma on Sunday October 7, 2018 from noon to 5:00 PM. Memorials are suggested to Fairview Fellowship Home in care of the funeral home. Thoughts and memories may be shared in the online guest book at www.swaimfuneralhome.com.
