Garden City - Shirley Ann Lucas, 90, passed away on January 19, 2026 at Homestead of Garden City. She was born on February 6, 1935 at Satanta, the daughter of Milton and Gladys (McAhren) Blair.
She graduated from Satanta High School in 1953. Shirley was a majorette in high school and performed in school plays. She then attended nursing school at Ft. Scott.
On March 19, 1955, Shirley married Ron Lucas at the Satanta United Methodist Church. Three children were born to this marriage followed by five grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Shirley became a Bible Study Leader, farm bookkeeper and devoted mother and grandmother. Ron and she bowled and enjoyed card parties. They attended many athletic games and other events of their family through the years. Her cooking and hosting are fondly remembered. Shirley's red velvet cake and fried chicken were excellent. Ron and Shirley enjoyed traveling in the states and abroad.
Shirley was a member of the Satanta United Methodist Church, Sunshine Club, Santee Club, and Gideon's Auxiliary.
She is survived by her children: son, R.W. Lucas and wife Cathy of Sublette; daughter, Shannon Lucas of Garden City; son, Randy Lucas and wife Darlene of Garden City; one sister-in-law, Vicki Selby (David) of Denver, Colorado; grandsons, Tanner Lucas of Garden City and Spencer Lucas (Izzie) of Roeland Park; granddaughters, Ashley Bayer (Alan) of Garden City, Hope Simmons (Damon) of Hugoton, and Emily Rupp (Gib) of McCook, Nebraska; and six great granddaughters; four great grandsons; and her beloved dog Zoey. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ron; sister, Maxine Branam of Wichita; brothers, Dale Blair and Marion Blair of Satanta; and many nieces and nephews who held a special place in her heart.
Funeral service will be held at the Satanta United Methodist Church on Saturday, January 24, 2026 at 10:30 AM with Rev. Kip Ryherd presiding. Burial will follow at Dudley Township Cemetery in Satanta. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel of Sublette on Friday, January 23, 2026 from 2:00 to 5:00 PM.
