Cimarron - Shirley Jo Nicolet, 75, passed peacefully in her sleep surrounded by her family on April 8, 2023 at St. Catherine Hospital of Dodge City. She was born on July 9, 1947 at Columbus, Ohio the daughter of Ralph and Emily (Wray) Beach.
Shirley grew up in Kokomo, Indiana, where she graduated from high school. The oldest of seven, Shirley was known for her loyalty, compassion and wit. She enjoyed working in her dad's flower shop and spending time with her siblings. After high school, Shirley moved to Lawrence to attend Kansas University where she studied art. While in Lawrence, Shirley met Greg Nicolet, and the two were married on April 30, 1972. The two moved to Colorado where they had their first born, David. After living in Colorado, they moved moved to Cimarron. Shirley and Greg were co-owners or Nicolet's in Cimarron from 1975-1998. After the clothing store closed, Shirley went to work for Youthville, where she remained until retirement. She will be missed immensely.
Shirley enjoyed cooking, sewing and playing bridge and had a love for cats. Shirley and Greg served as foster parents, caring for two foster children together. She was also a member of PTO.
Shirley is survived by her husband, Greg Nicolet; two sons, David Nicolet of Cimarron and Micahel Nicolet plus his significant other Sandy Heiter of Menasha, Wisconsin, and daughter, Emily Murray and husband Sam Murray of Kansas City, Missouri; five grandchildren, Zoe Nicolet, Taylor Johnson, Jo Correia, Shaden Nicolet, and Mace Nicolet; and siblings, Larry Beach, Janet Phillips, Jane Medley, Joe Harding, and Nancy Klass. She was preceded in death by her mother, Emily Beach; father, Ralph Beach; step mother, Millie Beach; and brother, Jim Beach.
A graveside service will be held at a later date at Cimarron Cemetery. There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Memorials are suggested to the Cimarron City Library or Cimarron Senior Center - Gray County Over 50 in care of the funeral home.
