Cimarron - Shirley R. Voran, 59, was a difference maker, a life changer, and a vision caster. She was born January 21, 1958 in Hays, KS to proud parents, Glenn and Hilma Loflin. She gained her angel wings and went to be with her Lord and Savior August 19, 2017 surrounded by her family at her home in Cimarron.

She was raised on a farm south of Ogallah where she fell in love with her animals and learned a determined work ethic. Shirley graduated from Trego Community High School in 1976 and Fort Hays State University in 1980. At the time of her passing, she was actively pursuing her Doctorate Degree in Education from Kansas State University.

Shirley taught for 2 years at Ransom High School before beginning her career as the Gray County Extension Home Economist in Cimarron. On April 14, 1984 she married the love of her life and best friend, David D. Voran. They went on to have 2 daughters, Laura and Sara, who she unconditionally loved and adored. In 1986 they started their business, The Kansas Wheat House, Inc. in Cimarron, KS. In 2004 she began teaching at Dodge City High School in the Family and Consumer Science department and touched many lives.

Her passions included her family, friends, students, and pets. She always said the dessert of life was her grandchildren and she felt great honor in making a difference in the lives of others. Shirley always had a vibrant energy and enthusiasm about everything in life. Her legacy will be passed on for many generations to come through all of the lives she touched.

She is survived by her husband David, Cimarron; daughters, Laura Roth and husband, Mike, Lawrence; Sara Fairbank and husband, Trenton, Shawnee; three grandchildren, Breckyn and Asher Roth, and Sadie Fairbank; a sister, Joann Paschal and husband, Mark, Luray; and many friends, family, and students.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Glenn and Hilma Loflin.

Celebration of Life Service will be held at Cimarron United Methodist Church on Wednesday, August 23, 2017 at 10:30 AM with Rev. Mike Keating presiding.  Burial will follow at Garfield Cemetery in Garfield at 3:00 PM.  Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel of Cimarron on Tuesday, August 22, 2017 from 12:00 to 8:00 PM.  Memorials are suggested to Cimarron United Methodist Church or Dodge City High School FCCLA in care of the funeral home.  Thoughts and memories may be shared in the online guest book at www.swaimfuneralhome.com.
