CIMARRON-Sidney T. Warner, 75, died Friday, August 21, 2009 at The Shepherd's Center in Cimarron. He was born on April 26, 1934 in Dodge City, the son of Leigh and Merle Shelley (Taylor) Warner.
Sidney grew up in Cimarron and graduated from Cimarron High School in 1952. He attended Kansas State University, graduating in 1956 with a major in Economics and a minor in History. On April 24, 1960, he married Thelma Schoen in Cimarron. She survives. He served in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1958 where he served in the Signal Corp. Mr. Warner was a farmer, rancher and stockman in Gray and Finney Counties. He was an owner in and the manager of Warner Ranches, Warner Feedyard, & Warner Real Estate as well as Chairman & CEO of Cimarron Investment Co. and it subsidiaries including Cimarron Insurance Company and The Plains Insurance Company and various affiliates. He served as President of television station KTVC Channel 6 of Ensign and was a director and officer of the Wheatgrowers Mutual Hail Insurance Company. Mr. Warner enjoyed gardening and hunting.
He was a member of Cimarron United Methodist Church. Mr. Warner served as a member of the Kansas Board of Regents and was also very active in many organizations including the Cimarron Rotary Club, Kansas Livestock Association, Gray County Democratic Party Chairman for 26 years, former Kansas State Democratic Party Treasurer, a Delegate to the National Democratic Convention in 1976, and the Kansas State University Alumni Association. Sidney was a Boy Scouts of America scoutmaster for 18 years and received the Eagle Scout award, Distinguished Eagle Award, the Silver Beaver Award, and the Silver Antelope Award.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Warner is also survived by one son, Charles Warner and wife Susan of Cimarron; one daughter, Sara Schartz and husband Steve of Cimarron; one sister, Diane Warner of Leawood; one grandson, Jack Warner; four granddaughters, Katherine Schartz, Caitlin Njogu, Hailey Berry, and Emily Berry; and two nephews, Warner Janof and Eric Janof.
Memorial service will be held at Cimarron United Methodist Church on Wednesday, August 26, 2009 at 10:00 AM with Rev. Kent Little presiding. There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. A private family burial will be held at a later time.
