CIMARRON - Sparky Hefner, 84, died January 6, 2019 at Dodge City. He was born on August 1, 1934 in Mayfield, Oklahoma, the son of James and Mary (Parrish) Hefner.

Sparky graduated in 1952 from Holtville High School in Holtville, California.  He served in the United States Army at Fort Sill in Lawton, Oklahoma. After his discharge, he attended Cameron Junior College also in Lawton.  On August 23, 1953, he married Connie Green in Holtville, California.  Sparky spent his career in the insurance business as an Agency and Claim manager for Wheat Growers Mutual Hail and Farmers Mutual Hail.  He later owned and operated Hefner Insurance Agency until his retirement in 2017.

He was a very talented athlete.  He played football, baseball, and ran track while in the Army and also at Cameron Junior College.  Sparky enjoyed spending time with family, especially watching his kids and grandkids in sports.  He was also an avid golfer.

Sparky was a member of the Cimarron Golf Club.

He is survived by two daughters, Robin Hamilton and husband Rusty of Lubbock, Texas and Stevie Coles and husband Joe of Cimarron; a son, Russell Hefner and wife Terry of Lindsborg; seven grandchildren, Mindy Hamilton, Brandon Hamilton and wife Ali, Joni Watkins and husband Justin, Jara Wilson and husband Chris, Jay Coles and wife Kaylee, Nikie Rogers, and Chock Hefner and wife Sally; 13 great grandchildren with two more on the way. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Connie; four brothers; two sisters; and grandson-in-law, Brandon Rogers.

Funeral service will be held at Cimarron United Methodist Church on Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at 4:00 PM with Rev. Mike Keating presiding.  Private family burial will be at a later date.  Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel, Cimarron on Tuesday, January 8, 2019 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM with the family present.  Memorials are suggested to Cimarron Golf Club in care of the funeral home.  Thoughts and memories may be shared in the online guest book at www.swaimfuneralhome.com.
