STEVEN JAY "STEVE" PROEHL
Cimarron - Steven Jay "Steve" Proehl, 57, died March 18, 2013 in Gray County. He was born on August 14, 1955 at Wichita, the son of Lester Ernest and Vera Katherine (Tietz) Proehl.
He lived in the Ingalls and Pierceville areas early in his life, and graduated from Ingalls High School. He was a graduate of Garden City Community College. He married DeLoris Toothaker on February 14, 1976 at Cimarron. She survives. Steve worked for Hilker Hay Company, Cimarron. He enjoyed racing micro-midget cars, flying his own airplane, and hauling calves from Cedar Bluff Ranch.
Survivors include wife DeLoris "Dee" Proehl, Cimarron; two daughters, Jennifer Wulf and husband Travis, Wichita; DeAnna Schmidt and husband Chris, Garden City; his mother, Vera Proehl, Garden City; two brothers, Russell Proehl, Florida; and Allen Proehl, Holcomb; two sisters, Marjorie Frey, Emporia; and Naomi Holloway, Hutchinson, and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father and one brother, Larry Proehl.
Funeral service will be held at Cimarron First Christian Church on Friday, March 22, 2013 at 10:30 A.M. with Mr. David Johnson presiding. Burial will follow at Cimarron Cemetery in Cimarron. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel, Cimarron, on Thursday, March 21, 2013 from 12:00 PM til 8:00 PM. Memorials are suggested to Gray County EMS in care of the funeral home.
