Obituary

Montezuma - Sueann Doris Koehn was born on January 5, 1946, to Willie and Gustena Dirks Koehn in Garden City, Kansas. She peacefully passed away on the morning of June 7, 2026, at Bethel Home, Montezuma, Kansas.

Sueann was baptized into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, on March 5, 1961, by Minister Willard Johnson. She remained true to her vows to the end.  Sueann spent her childhood in the Montezuma area. She enjoyed the farm and liked to ride with her father on the tractor. Her school years were completed in Montezuma, and she graduated from high school in 1964.

Sueann was an only child. She cared for her parents, spending hours with them at Bethel Home in their sunset years. After her parents passed away, she spent time doing volunteer work at Bethel Home. Sueann worked at the Montezuma Public School as a secretary for one year, eight years at Cimarron Insurance Company, and thirty-five years at the Church Aid Plans. Sueann was very dedicated to her work in the Christian Hospitalization Aid department, being its face and voice for many years. She answered thousands of phone calls and was fastidious about keeping books properly and making sure policy was carefully applied. She spent many holidays working at the office to make sure everything was taken care of. She frequently left her vacation days unused, preferring the structure of going to work instead. Not having grown up with siblings, she was especially gullible to the teasing from her fellow employees, and she was an exceptionally good sport, laughing as hard as the pranksters when the mischief had been done.

Without siblings or children, her relatives were important to her, including her cousins' children. Going on outings with friends was always enjoyable for her. She would often drive while the others would sing. A trip to the Holy Lands was a special time in her life. She enjoyed collecting books and had a huge collection when it was time to downsize for her move to Bethel Home. She also loved flowers and cats, especially her favorite black cat, Smokey Joe.

Sueann moved to a Bethel Home apartment in 2011. As her health declined, she spent the last five years in full care, becoming friends with the nurses who cared for her. She enjoyed participating in the various activities Bethel Home provided. A special thanks to the staff at Bethel Home for all the love and care given to Sueann.

Her survivors include a host of cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, uncles, and aunts.
