Obituary

Dodge City - Susan Pearl (Craghead) Harms, 75, passed away on July 20, 2023 at Sunporch Nursing Home in Dodge City. She was born on November 24, 1947 in Jetmore, to Jesse (Joe) and Lucy (Hey) Craghead.

Susan graduated from cosmetology school in 1966. She married Dean Harms, her grade school sweetheart, later that same year. Susan held many careers throughout her life, working as a florist, a cook, a cosmetologist, an Avon saleswoman, and more.  A family woman above all else, she always made sure that her job left enough space for her to stay home and take care of her children.

Susan was a loving wife, daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, and friend.  She was a devout Christian and an active member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church.  She was skilled at gardening, pottery, and storytelling.  She will be remembered for her joy and laughter, which always filled a room and brightened the day.  Her family is comforted to know that she is at home in the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Susan is survived by her husband, Dean Harms of Dodge City; her two children, Diane Dahna of Dodge City and Bryan Harms (Diane) of McKinney, Texas; her siblings, Donna Hendrickson (Sam) of Jetmore, Larry Craghead of Dodge City, Judy Nichols of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Pam Hamilton of Dodge City, and Sandie Masden (Dave) of Dodge City;  three grandchildren, Amanda Dahna of Wichita, Dylan Harms (Vivian) of McKinney, Texas; and Demi Harms of McKinney, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Lucy Craghead and her siblings-in-law, Debbie Craghead and Eldon Nichols.

Funeral service will be held at Swaim Funeral Chapel, Dodge City on Wednesday, July 26, 2023 at 2:00 PM with Rev. Randall Jahnke presiding. Burial will follow at Fairmount Cemetery in Jetmore.  Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel on Tuesday, July 25, 2023 from noon to 8:00 PM with the family receiving friends from 5-7.  Memorials are suggested to Holy Cross Lutheran Church in care of the funeral home.  Thoughts and memories may be shared in the online guest book at www.swaimfuneralhome.com.
