Obituary

Montezuma - Our mother and grandmother, Susanna K. Unruh, was born on September 26, 1923 to Jacob B. and Carrie (Koehn) Wiens in Gray County. She slipped away to eternal rest at home in the morning hours of February 19, 2016, reaching the age of 92.

Mom grew up in rural Gray County. She received her education at Sunnyside School north of Copeland. Mom was converted and baptized into the Church of God in Christ Mennonite on October 16, 1940 by Minister Jesse Johnson. She remained true to these vows until the end.

Mom found employment at the Sublette Hospital and Bethel Home. On October 16, 1955, she was united in marriage to David P. Unruh. They lived their married life in Haskell and Gray Counties, where dad was employed in land leveling and agriculture.

To this union three children were born. Dad passed away on September 27, 2000, leaving Mom lonely. She was a hard worker who loved her family, always tending to their needs. Mom enjoyed reading and cooking. When her family was away, she always looked forward to them coming home again. Special times were when the grandchildren came.

Those left to cherish the memories include two daughters, Janette and Joy Unruh both of Montezuma; a son, Brian Unruh and wife Tammy of Claremore, Oklahoma and their family, Lauren, Kayley, Zachary, and Cheyanna; a sister, Velma Wiens of Montezuma; and two sisters-in-law, Ruth Wiens of Manhattan and Gladys Wiens of Moundridge. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, David, three brothers, Edward, Alvin, and Henry; three sisters, Clara Wiens, Irene Koehn, and Alma Wiens; three brothers in infancy; and one niece.

Funeral service will be held at Montezuma Mennonite Church on Monday, February 22, 2016 at 10:30 AM with Ministers Charles Schmidt, Craig Koehn, and Donald Koehn presiding. Burial will follow at Montezuma Mennonite Cemetery. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel, Montezuma on Sunday, February 21, 2016 from noon to 5:00 PM. Thoughts and memories may be shared in the online guest book at www.swaimfuneralhome.com.
