Dodge City - Susie Janette Ketner, 90, passed peacefully on December 25, 2020 at Reflection Living, Dodge City. She was born on May 7, 1930 at Norfolk, Virginia the daughter of William and Janette (Garrett) Scott.
Susie grew up in Norfolk, Virginia and moved with her family to New Smyrna Beach, Florida, where she graduated high school. She then attended Eastern Nazarene College in Quincy, Massachusetts where she met her future husband Jerrold W. "Jerry" Ketner. They were united in marriage on August 19, 1955 in Miami, Florida. Susie was an administrative assistant at MidAmerica Nazarene University in Olathe. Susie and Jerry started a compassion ministry called New Hope in the Rockies in the early 1990's. They moved to Dodge City in 1994 and started New Hope on the Plains. She enjoyed cross stitching, puzzles, and spending time with her family. Susie also enjoyed spending time in Colorado, where she could be found trout fishing.
She is survived by her daughter, Kandra Conant and husband Dr. Merrill Conant of Dodge City; three grandchildren, Erin Barber and husband Andrew of Sacramento, California, Ashley Iverson and husband Steve of Alta Vista, and Taylor De La Torre and husband Raul of Dodge City; four great grandchildren, Josephine and Genevieve Iverson, Luca De La Torre, and Helena Barber; and two sisters, Katherine Stevenson of Sebring, Florida and Beatrice Sherrill of Atlanta, Georgia.She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dr. Jerry Ketner; and a great granddaughter, Colette De La Torre.
Funeral service will be held at Dodge City Church of the Nazarene on Thursday December 31, 2020 at 10:30 AM with Dr. Justin Hayes and Mr. Jeff Hiers presiding. Burial will be at 1:30PM on Thursday at Cimarron Cemetery in Cimarron. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel on Wednesday December 30, 2020 from Noon to 8:00PM with the family present from 6:00PM to 8:00PM. Memorials are suggested to New Hope on the Plains, P.O.
