Dodge City – Terence "Terry" Lee Stecklein, 84, died November 14, 2018 at his home in Dodge City. He was born on December 27, 1933 in Ness County, the son of Isidor and Pauline (Gabel) Stecklein.
Terry was raised on the family farm near Ness City. He attended school there until his freshman year. The family moved to Lane county and Terry graduated from Dighton High School in 1951. He then began farming with his dad. On April 7, 1958, he married Arlene Beck in Ness City. They lived in Lane County for five years before moving to Great Bend and then to Dodge City. Terry worked as a salesman for Guys Foods in Dodge City and later worked as a custodian for USD 443. Terry was an avid reader, enjoyed fishing, golfing, bowling, and woodworking. He was a jack of all trades, always helping others fix things. Vacationing in the mountains of Colorado with family during the summers and spending time with his grandchildren were other things he loved doing.
Terry was a member of the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe. He served on church committees and taught CCD classes for Our Lady of Guadalupe. Terry also served on the school board of Sacred Heart School. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Terry is survived by his wife, Arlene of Dodge City; two sons, Steve Stecklein and wife Kelly and Dan Stecklein and wife Denice all of Dodge City; five daughters, Vickie Ridenour and husband Scott of Cimarron, Sherry Martinez and husband Jeff, Susie Reardon and husband Tim, Terie Jo Trent and husband Todd all of Dodge City, and Kristy Rhoden of Ellis; 22 grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; stepmother, Angela Stecklein-Friess; a daughter, Mary Ann Stecklein; one sister, Judy Simpson; and two brothers, Virgil Stecklein and Tom Stecklein.
Vigil Service will be held at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Dodge City on Sunday November 18, 2018 at 7:00 PM. Funeral Mass will be held at the Catheral in Dodge City on Monday November 19, 2018 at 10:00 AM. Burial will be at 2:30 PM on Monday at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Ness City. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel on Sunday, November 18, 2018 from noon to 5:00 PM. Memorials are suggested to Sacred Heart School Endowment Fund in care of the funeral home.
