Copeland - Teresa "Teddie" Mata, 68, passed away March 2, 2018 at at her home in Copeland surrounded by her family. She was born on July 23, 1949 in Sinton, Texas, the daughter of Juan and Petra (Zamarripas) Montemayor.
Teddie spent her childhood in Ennis, Texas. On January 6, 1967 she married Trinidad Mata in Waxahachie, Texas. They moved to Copeland in 1973. Teddie began working for USD 476 in Copeland in 1991 as the food service director until her retirement in 2015. Teddie enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Teddie was a fabulous cook that never measured anything. She was known for her tamales, a talent she passed on to her daughters.
She was a member of the St. Alphonsus Catholic Church of Satanta.
Teddie is survived by her husband of 51 years, Trinidad of Copeland; eight children, Trinidad Mata, Jr. of Copeland, Juanita Mata of Copeland; Freddy Mata and wife Brandy of Sublette; Breanna Mata of Copeland; Lori Giesick and husband Kale of Okeene, Oklahoma; Jamie Berry and husband Brian of Garden City; Jason Mata and wife Krista of Dodge City; and Curtis Mata and wife Amanda of Pratt; three brothers, Jose and Santos both of Ennis, Texas; Chris of Sublette; five sisters, Gloria Garcia of Houston; Rafaela Mata and Mary Montemayor both of Ennis, Texas; Alicia Escobar of Sublette; and Irma Cruz of Corpus Christi, Texas; 21 grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents and a granddaughter, Chloe Berry.
Vigil Service will be held at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, Satanta on Monday March 5, 2018 at 7:00 PM. Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday March 6, 2018 at 10:00 AM at the church with Rev. Jim Dieker presiding. Burial will follow at Copeland Cemetery. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel, Sublette on Monday March 5, 2018 from noon to 5:00 PM.
