THELMA NADINE MAXWELL
Dodge City - Thelma Nadine Maxwell, 84, died June 28, 2012 at Presbyterian Manor of the Plains, Dodge City. She was born on October 16, 1927 in Hodgeman County, the daughter of John and Dessie (Glunt) Cossman.
Thelma graduated from Jetmore High School in 1945. She married Richard Maxwell on October 16, 1947 in Hodgeman county. They moved to Dodge City that same year. In addition to teaching school during the war, she was a busy farm wife and mother during her lifetime. Thelma was a great advocate of hardwork. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church, working on ABW projects and teaching Sunday School. She was a lifetime member of BH and BH Home Extension Unit, Wheathearts, Rural Life, and a leader of Keen Klippers 4-H club for twenty years. She was an annual participant in Bake and Take Day. Many enjoyed her baked goods.
Survivors include husband Richard, one son Brad, both of Dodge City; three daughters, Carol Powers, Junction City; Sharla Frazier, Annadale, New Jersey; Dana Hahn, Lake Lotawana, Missouri; one brother James Cossman, Hodgeman County; one sister Darlene Dugger, Dodge City, eleven grandchildren, and four great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother John M. Cossman, and one infant daughter.
Funeral service will be held at Swaim Funeral Home, Dodge City on Tuesday, July 3, 2012 at 10:00 AM with Dr. Gary Winget presiding. Burial will follow at Greencrest Cemetery, Dodge City. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Home on Monday, July 2, from 12:00 PM til 8:00 PM., with family receiving friends from 5:00 to 6:00 PM. Memorials are suggested to First Baptist Church, Dodge City, the 4-H Foundation, or Hospice of the Prairie, Dodge City, in care of the funeral home.
