IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Thelma Grace
Vickery Myrbo
December 4, 1938 – November 6, 2024
Cimarron—Thelma Grace Vickery Myrbo, 85, passed away peacefully on November 6, 2024, at Harry Hynes Hospice in Wichita, Kansas. She was born on December 4, 1938, in Preston, Georgia, the daughter of Charlie W. and Mable (Mims) Mask.
Thelma spent her early years in Georgia with her family. She married James Vickery on April 8, 1955, and together they had four children. As a military family, they moved frequently, living in Georgia, Panama, Alaska, California, Indiana, Illinois, and Wisconsin. James passed away in 1986. Thelma then married Calvin Myrbo on November 28, 1987, and gained four stepchildren. Calvin and Thelma enjoyed travels across the United States, from Key West to the Pacific Northwest, visiting family in their motorhome. In 1995, they settled in Florida. Calvin passed away in 2016.
In 2018, Thelma moved to Cimarron to be closer to family. In the fall of 2020, she became a beloved resident of the Shepherd's Center, where she formed deep friendships with fellow residents, their families, and the staff, all of whom she considered part of her extended family. She especially enjoyed visits from staff with their pets. Thelma was a gifted storyteller, able to recall the smallest details of her life in a way that captivated everyone around her. She loved hearing about the lives of others and shared her own stories with warmth and humor.
Thelma was a woman of routine, and a bit of a perfectionist. She had a particular way of doing things, and her preferences were non-negotiable. Beneath her high-maintenance exterior was a kind and compassionate soul. She was a voracious reader, especially enjoying the Bible and her daily devotions. A tech-savvy individual, she used her devices to watch her favorite TV shows, keep up with current events, and stay connected with friends and loved ones. Her favorite items were never far from her reach: Carmex, Baby Magic lotion, hard candy, a nail file, and something to read. She loved to indulge with a McDonald's sweet tea (no ice), coconut cream cake, or a home cooked steak.
Thelma is survived by her son, Jim Vickery and wife Rita of DeQueen, AR; her daughter, Kathi "Jayne" Greenwaldt and husband Terry of Pahrump, NV; son-in-law, Lyn Wright and wife Connie of Cimarron, KS; stepdaughter, Cheryl Myrbo and husband Timothy Settimi of Atlanta, GA; and stepdaughter-in-law, Julie Myrbo of Iowa. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Michelle Howe of Bloomington, IN; Michael (Ashlee) Robertson of Spencer, IN; David (Lisa) Vickery of Queen Creek, AZ; James Vickery of Waupaca, WI; Sabrina (Bobby) Harris of Mineral Wells, TX; Jon (Vicktoria) Wright of Port Orchard, WA; Heather (Derrick) Renick of Cimarron, KS; Patrick (Monica) Wright of Portland, TX; Lyn Jr Wright of Cimarron, KS; Laura (Devin) Hamilton of Minneola, KS; Tracie (Travis) Coats of Bakersfield, CA; Emilie (Brandon) Gilmore of Bakersfield, CA and step-grandchildren: Amy Myrbo of St. Paul, MN; Jessica Myrbo of Madison, WI; Katy Myrbo of Madison, WI; and Aaron (Jenny) White of Atlanta, GA and numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, in-laws, and countless other relatives and friends.
