Dodge City - Theresa Herrera, 87, died April 22, 2014 at Western Plains Medical Complex, Dodge City. She was born on October 15, 1926 at Cimarron, the daughter of Jose and Maria (Cabrera) Ascenio.

Theresa worked at the Dodge City Air Base during World War II. She was a graduate of Ingalls High School. Mrs. Herrera was a library clerk and the Dodge City Public Library and Miller Elementary School. She treasured spending time with her family above all else in life.

On December 26, 1946 she married Albert Herrera at Dodge City. He preceded her in death on April 1, 2001.

She was a member of the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe of Dodge City and the Boothill Iris Club of Dodge City.

Theresa is survived by six sons, David Herrera and Tim Herrera both of Dodge City, Eric Herrera and Loran Herrera both of Wichita, Patrick Herrera and wife Ronnie of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Rene Herrera and wife Ann of Hutchinson; three daughters, Veronica Herrera of Garden City, Carol Herrera of Austin, Texas, and Janine Russell and husband Doug of Clarkesville, Tennessee; three sisters, Ruth Martinez of Montezuma, Georgina Martinez of Dodge City and Gloria Graf of Silver City, New Mexico; eleven grandchildren and six great grandchildren; and numerous loved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Elizabeth; two brothers, John and Jody; and four sisters, Esther, Eleanor, Dominga, and Mary Rose.

Vigil Service will be held at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe on Friday, April 25, 2014 at 7:00 PM. Funeral Mass will be held at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe on Saturday, April 26, 2014 at 10:00 A.M. with Rev. Wesley Schawe presiding. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dodge City. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Home on Friday, April 25, 2014 from Noon to 5:00 PM.
