Obituary

Timothy V. “Tim” McDaniel of Rockwall, Texas, passed away on March 22, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of faith, family, and a life of service. He was born on June 19, 1942, in Dodge City, Kansas, to Victor and Mary Louise (Lix) McDaniel.

Tim was a proud graduate of St. Mary’s of the Plains High School and College. He later earned his master’s degree in education from Kansas State University. He answered his calling as an educator with passion and dedication, spending more than 40 years as a teacher and later, a coach. To many, he was more than a teacher—he was a favorite, the kind who left a lasting impact long after students left his classroom. While he could be demanding, it was because he was preparing his students for life, holding them to a standard he knew they were capable of reaching.

Known for his quick wit and warm, personable nature, Tim had a gift for making people feel at ease. Both his classroom and his home were places of welcome. His hospitality was unmatched; he often opened his door to new teachers, offering not just a meal, but friendship, guidance, and a sense of belonging.

Tim married Julia Thorpe in Dodge City, Kansas, and together they built a family that was everything to him. He was a proud and loving father to five children: Melora McDaniel of Overland Park, Kansas; Sean McDaniel (Kerry) of Overland Park, Kansas; Marisa Apodaca (Robert) of Omaha, Nebraska; Melaney Loar (Edward) of Rockwall, Texas; and Monique McDaniel of Rockwall, Texas.

Nothing brought him more joy than his grandchildren. He was a devoted grandfather to Brittani King, Brooke Boyd, Angelo Apodaca, Max McDaniel, Myles McDaniel, Collins Loar, James Loar, and William Loar. Whether cheering them on at their activities or simply spending time together, he was happiest when surrounded by family.

Tim enjoyed laughing, cooking, dancing, reading, gardening, Kansas basketball, music, and movies—but above all, he loved people. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Jacquelyn Pratt and Bonni Spence; and his former spouse, Julia McDaniel. He is survived by his sister, Victoria Hill (Douglas) of St. Louis, Missouri, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Services will be held on April 18, 2026 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Spearville, Kansas beginning with the Rosary at 9:00 a.m., followed by Mass at 9:30 a.m. A graveside service and lunch will follow at St. Andrew’s in Wright, Kansas. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Timothy V. McDaniel Memorial Fund in care of the funeral home established in his honor. Swaim Funeral Home, 1901 6th Ave, Dodge City, KS 67801.

Tim will be remembered for his kindness, his laughter, and the way he made people feel seen and valued. His legacy lives on in his family, his students, and the countless lives he touched.
