Obituary

Montezuma - My husband, TJ Boehs, was born October 12, 1937, in Fairview, Oklahoma to Tobe and Lula (Kahn) Boehs.  He peacefully passed away at Bethel Home in Montezuma on Tuesday evening, December 22, 2020, reaching the age of 83.

The oldest of 4 children, he grew up near Fairview and graduated from high school there.  TJ learned the value of hard work early when he worked on the family farm and custom harvested with his father.  A few years later, he and his father established and operated a dairy in the Ringwood, OK area.

He answered the call of God and was baptized into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite at Fairview on March 15, 1950.  He always had a concern for the church and often was heard to say, "What would we do without the Brotherhood?"  A few days before his passing, he left a clear testimony of his salvation.

On April 28, 1963, TJ was married to me, Orpah Koehn in Montezuma, by David J. Koehn.  We enjoyed 57 years of memories and many happy times.  In 1969, we moved Leland, Mississippi and engaged in the dirt moving business.  Two and a half years later, we relocated to Macon, Mississippi where his occupations included farming, operating a farm supply store, a sharpening shop and managing fish ponds. After retirement, we moved to Montezuma, in February of 2017.  We lived comfortably together in our home until January of 2020, when TJ's health declined, and he moved to Bethel Home.

Those left to cherish many memories are his wife, Orpah Boehs of Montezuma; one sister, Marise Boehs of Norman, Oklahoma; brother-in-law, Lavern Koehn and wife Phyllis; sister-in-law, Crystal Koehn; and brother-in-law, Kenneth Koehn, all of Montezuma; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Tobe and Lula Boehs; one sister, Loretta, who died at birth; and a brother, Merle.

Funeral service will be held at Montezuma Mennonite Church on Monday December 28, 2020 at 10:30 AM.  Burial will follow at Montezuma Mennonite Cemetery.  Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel, Montezuma on Sunday December 27, 2020 from noon to 5:00 PM.  Memorials are suggested to Bethel Home in care of the funeral home.  Thoughts and memories may be shared in the online guest book at www.swaimfuneralhome.com.
