Obituary

Velma Lucille Faulds, 93, died July 9, 2018 at Trinity Manor in Dodge City.  She was born on July 31, 1924 in Stafford, the daughter of Ira and Hazel (Ricketts) West.

Velma attended Kinsley schools, graduating in 1942.  She attended Dodge City Community College. On February 4, 1943, Velma married James Faulds.  They had four children, Hazel, Rodney, Charlie, and Stanley.  James preceded her in death on February 4, 2004.  Velma was a homemaker and caregiver to her grandparents, parents, children, grandchildren, and several friends as they aged.  She and James enjoyed traveling with the Keenagers  on their many adventures.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Dodge City, Tri Phi Sunday School class, West Hopewell Community Extension Unit, and the Ladies Aid.  Velma was also active in 4-H leadership, church youth groups and Eastern Star.

Velma is survived by a daughter, Hazel Love and husband John of Plainville; three sons, Rodney Faulds and wife Jan of Cimarron, Charlie Faulds of Dodge City, and Stanley Faulds and wife Cara of Gunnison, Colorado; two sisters, June Hahn and husband Don of Dodge City and Versa Runkle and husband Dan of Bel Aire; sister-in-law, Betty Mead of Asbury, Missouri; 12 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; and one great-great grandson.  She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, James; daughter-in-law Sharon Faulds; brother, Virgil West; and sister, Vivian Konda.

Funeral service will be held at Swaim Funeral Chapel, Dodge City on Saturday July 14, 2018 at 10:00 AM with Rev. Jerre Nolte presiding.  Burial will follow at Greencrest Cemetery, Dodge City.  Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel on Friday July 13, 2018 from noon to 8:00 PM with the family receiving friends from 5-7 PM.  Memorials are suggested to First United Methodist Church or Trinity Manor in care of the funeral home.  Thoughts and memories may be shared in the online guest book at www.swaimfuneralhome.com.
