IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Velma Jean
Koehn
November 8, 1938 – June 5, 2024
Our mother and grandmother, Velma Jean Koehn was born on November 8, 1938, to George and Edna Mae (Koehn) Koehn. After a short illness, with her family surrounding her, she passed away in the late evening hours on June 5, 2024, at Bethel Home, reaching the age of 85.
Mom grew up in the sandhills northwest of Montezuma. Her early school years were at East Banner, and she completed her schooling in the Ingalls, Kansas school system.
Mom gave her heart to the Lord and was baptized on January 22, 1954, by Min, David J. Koehn. She was faithful to the Lord and to the church until the end.
Mom fell in love with our dad when she was a teenager. They were married on July 27, 1958, by Min. Wilber Koehn. Soon after they were married, the spent two years in 1W service in Camp 45 Mexico. Their home was blessed with three sons.
Mom enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. She loved farm life, always taking an interest in the crops and yields, helping dad with moving irrigation pipe and running grain cart during harvest. Planting flowers and doing yard work were always a pleasure to her. She enjoyed those "little outings" with her sisters and friends whether meeting at the coffee shop, or material shopping at various fabric stores. We always felt welcomed at mom's house and she loved it when her children and grandchildren would come over. She always remembered the grandchildren's and great grandchildren's birthdays, sending them a card with a little money. The tragic death of their son Nolan broke her heart but her faith in God carried her thru.
When dad's health declined and he needed to go to Bethel Home, Mom was right there by his side, faithfully taking care of him. Mom found much fulfillment in later years giving many hours of voluntary help at Bethel Home, touching lives and making many friends there. Her unconditional love touched many lives. Her passing will leave a hole in our hearts, but we rest in the fact she is safe in the arms of Jesus.
Those left to cherish fond memories are two sons, Kyle and wife Lola, Greeley Colorado and Presley and wife Charity of Montezuma, Kansas; eight grandchildren, Heather, Whitney and husband Travis, Annie and husband Tyler, Justin and wife Lisa, Jed and wife Tonya, Madison, Braun, and Riley; five great grandchildren; three sisters; Lila Koehn, Shirley and husband Howard Schmidt, and Betty, and husband Dale Koehn; two brothers, Harold Koehn and wife Judy and Rodger Koehn and wife Judy, all of Montezuma; and one sister-in-law, Lorraine Ensz of Inman Kansas. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, one son, and one brother-in-law.
