Obituary

Velma Lee (Harryman Ross) Moss, 95, passed from this life to eternal life at Presbyterian Manor of the Plains in Dodge City, Kansas on March 13, 2012. She was born on the family farm in Cleveland County, Oklahoma, three miles southeast of the town of Lexington on February 14, 1917.

Velma Lee was the oldest of four daughters born to Lee A. and Sarah Lena (Phillips) Harryman.
She attended grade school at the Stovall one-room schoolhouse and high school at Lexington
High School where she graduated in 1934.

In 1935, she married Ivan Edward Ross at the Baptist parsonage in Purcell, Oklahoma and they
made their home on the Ross farm 3 miles northeast of the town of Lexington. They also lived in
Portland, Oregon; Oklahoma City; and Norman, Oklahoma. They had two sons and later
divorced.

In 1955, Velma Lee married Richard Harold Moss and in 1957, they moved to Medford, Oklahoma
where she lived until 2009 when she moved to Dodge City, Kansas. Velma Lee worked in
several customer service positions including several years for Kamp Brothers Grocery Store and
as a book keeper, but her real vocation was wife, mother, grandmother, homemaker, Sunday school teacher,
youth supporter and friend to the many people who loved her.

She was a member of First Baptist Church, Medford, Oklahoma for more than 50 years and First
United Methodist Church of Dodge City, since moving to Dodge City, Kansas.

Survivors include two sons; C. Duane Ross and wife Phyllis of Dodge City, Kansas, Dale E. Ross of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; five grandchildren, Ronna Keagle of Montgomery Village, Maryland, LeAnn Flores of Beebe, Arkansas, Kevin Ross of Montgomery Village, Maryland, Garrett Ross of Austin, Texas, and Jordan Mayfield of Lawrence, Kansas; and seven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard H. Moss, her parents, Lee and Lena Harryman and three sisters; Nova Deane Shields, Roberta Spencer, and Elnora Lamb.

Memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church in Medford, Oklahoma on Thursday, March 29, 2012 at 2:00 PM with Rev. Bob Smith and Dr. Jim Lady presiding. A second memorial service will be held at Wilson-Little Funeral Home in Purcell, Oklahoma on Friday, March 30, 2012 at 10:00 AM. Inurnment will follow at the Lexington Cemetery in Lexington, Oklahoma. There is no visitation as cremation has taken place. Memorials are suggested to the Falls Creek Baptist Youth Camp in care Swaim Funeral Home - 1901 Sixth Ave - Dodge City, Kansas 67801.
