Dodge City - Vera Ruth Kliewer, 101, died on December 11, 2022 at Manor of the Plains, Dodge City, Kansas.  She was born on June 7, 1921 to Aldus and Susanna Krehbiel Loganbill near Geary, Oklahoma. Her father died when she was 6 years old. Her mother married Albert Penner in 1928.

She married Orville Kliewer on August 14, 1949. He preceded her in death on July 11, 1991.

She attended Bethel College and Emporia State Teachers College. Before marriage and children, Vera taught Elementary School for 10 years. She taught Sunday School Classes, was active in Church and PTA, and Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. She was a voracious reader. She played the piano and was an excellent cook and gardner. Vera lived in her home until age 99 with some assistance as necessary.

Survivors include: five children; a daughter, Rochelle Simmons and husband Steve; a son, Kyle Kliewer; a daughter, Patrice White and Bill; a son, Royce Kliewer and wife Nina; a son, Rodmon Kliewer and wife Jean. Eight grandchildren; Cameron, Byron, Tara, Christopher, Kimberly, Samuel, Bethany, and Jacob and nine great-grandchildren. One sibling, (the child of Albert and Susanna Krehbiel Loganbill Penner), Loretta Krehbiel.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, Aldus Loganbill and Susanna Krehbiel Loganbill Penner, and step-father Albert Penner; five siblings, (children of Aldus and Susanna Krehbiel Loganbill), LaVeta Habegger and Eleanor Lehman, (child of Albert and Susanna Krehbiel Loganbill Penner), Lorene Goering, (children of Albert and Eliese Riesen Penner), Randy Penner and Hilda Jantzen.

The funeral service will be held at First United Methodist Church on Saturday December 17, 2022 at 10:30 AM with Rev. Jerre Nolte presiding.  Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dodge City, Kansas.  Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Home on Friday, December 16, 2022 from noon to 8:00 PM.  Memorials are suggested to Hospice of the Prairie or the First United Methodist Church in care of the funeral home.  Thoughts and memories may be shared in the online guest book at www.swaimfuneralhome.com.
