Dodge City - Vera O'Neal, 102, died October 15, 2020 at her home in Dodge City. She was born on June 26, 1918 in London, England, the daughter of Albert and Marie (Thorpe) Thompson.

Vera spent her childhood in London. She married Jack Smith. Vera later married Fred O'Neal during World War II. She was a faithful military wife, moving to Germany, Guam, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and New York as her husband was stationed at various military bases. After her husband retired from the military, the family returned to Hemel Hempstead, England. Fred preceded her in death. Vera followed her children back to the United States in the late 1970's, living in Dodge and Wichita. She enjoyed ballroom dancing and traveling with her family.

Vera is survived by a son, Leslie Smith and wife Iris of Melbourne, Australia; three daughters, Marilyn Lomas and husband Ted of Dodge City, Linda Edwards and husband Tim of Frisco, Texas, and Lise O'Neal of Dodge City; six grandchildren, Julian and Andrea Smith of Melbourne, Australia, David Lomas and wife Leslie of Dodge City, Darren Lomas of Conway, Arkansas, Chase Cossell and wife Lisa of Bucklin, and Jared Cossell and wife Lyndsay of Frisco, Texas; and 12 great grandchildren, Ryan, Tryston, and Brittany Lomas of Dodge City, Taylor, Lauren and Jayden Lomas of Conway, Arkansas, Macie Cossell of Goodwin, Oklahoma, Rush, Garit, and Dason Cossell of Bucklin, and Camdyn and Gracyn Cossell of Frisco, Texas; and a great great grandchild, Dax Lomas of Hanston.  In addition to her husband, Fred, Vera is preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral service will be held at Swaim Funeral Chapel, Dodge City on Sunday, October 18, 2020 at 7:00 PM with Mr. Jeff Hiers presiding. Cremation will follow the service. Burial will be at a later date in England. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of the Prairie in care of the funeral home.
