Obituary

Montezuma - Verbena Le (Unruh) Yost was born October 20, 1929, to Albert and Amanda (Koehn) Unruh on the family farm near Montezuma, Kansas. Mother was released from this earthly life on the morning of October 21, 2018, one day after her eighty-ninth birthday.

Mother spent her childhood years on her parents' farm. She completed eight years of school in the town of Montezuma. These were happy, carefree days. The family spent much time without their father, who was often out on revival calls. In their father's absence, a hired man helped out with the many chores. At the age of 14 Mother answered God's call. She was baptized October 24, 1943, by Minister Ervin Harms. She endeavored to be faithful to the Lord.

On August 7, 1949, Mother married the love of her life, Paul Yost. They began their home on Dad's family farm. Dad and Mother raised five boys with few conveniences. She often prayed for our safety. Church attendance was important to her. Traveling with the family was something she enjoyed. She liked to sing, taking song books along so we could all sing together. She was a private person, and found help in the scriptures for her daily struggles. Mother loved reading the Bible, often putting down her inspirations on paper.

After we boys married, our parents moved to town. Mother found pleasure in making quilts and crocheting afghans. She took interest in her grandchildren. Her wish was for them to have peaceful and contented lives. Dad and Mother enjoyed driving out to the farm to see the growing crops. Shortly after Dad moved to Bethel Home, Mom joined him there, and they were able to enjoy several more years together. Mother and Dad shared 68 years of married life.

Those left to cherish her memories are five sons: Clayton and Sherry, Roy and Connie, Verlyn and Nola and Roger and Marilee, all of Montezuma; Glen and Lorna of West Union, Iowa; a brother, Denton Unruh and wife Sharon, of Dodge City; sixteen grandchildren and sixteen grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Paul; her parents; two brothers, Russell Unruh and Ervey Unruh; and two sisters, Hazel Nightingale and Luella Koehn.

Funeral service will be held at Montezuma Mennonite Church on Wednesday October 24, 2018 at 10:30 AM . Burial will follow at Montezuma Mennonite Cemetery.
