Family and friends mourn the loss of Verla Carlin Haley

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Verla Carlin Haley on Wednesday, March 16, 2022. Born September 25, 1933, in Ford, Verla graduated from Ford High School and married Kenneth Lee Haley in 1951 at the Ford Kansas Methodist Church. The couple moved to Dodge City in 1955 where they raised their four children on the family farm and ranch.

Verla was a wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great grandmother, friend, and career woman. Always happiest when busy, she worked for 10 years as a bookkeeper for Bredfelt Oil, for 20 years as office manager for the Ford County Health Department, and then for another 10 years as a bookkeeper for Culligan.

Verla was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church and served as a volunteer for the church, the hospital auxiliary, and Salvation Army.

On July 29, 2021, Verla and Ken celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary—a heartwarming milestone that is an inspiration to family and friends.

Verla was preceded by her son, Michael Lee Haley; and her daughter, Janan Kay Haley. She is survived by her husband, Ken Haley; her daughter, Gail Fitch and her son, Hoss Haley; her son-in-law Stephen Fitch; her daughter-in-law Leslie Noell; five grandchildren and three great grandchildren; and many friends and admirers. Verla was a woman of spirit and endurance. Her legacy will live on long beyond her time here with us.

Memorial service will be held at Swaim Funeral Chapel in Dodge City on Friday, March 25, 2022 at 2:00 PM with Jeff Hiers presiding.  Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dodge City.
