DODGE CITY - Vernal Ray Reynolds, 88, died January 17, 2016 at Trinity Manor Nursing Home, Dodge City. He was born on October 16, 1927 in Ford County, the son of Raymond A. and Opal (Wear) Reynolds.

A lifelong resident of Ford County, Vernal attended school at the rural Sears School and farmed until he retired in 1993. He was a member of the NRA and enjoyed roller skating, fishing, trapping, prairie dog hunting and riding motorcycles.

On August 7, 1954 he married Mary Lucille Hoyt, of Ford, at the First Christian Church of Dodge City.

Vernal is survived by his wife Mary Reynolds of Dodge City; two children, Rhonda Ward and husband William A. of Dodge City and Fred Reynolds of Manhattan; three grandchildren, Desiree Wirth and husband Jeff of Greensburg, Michelle Adams and husband Brandon of Dodge City and Michael Gerber of Dodge City; and four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Virgil.

Graveside service will be held at Maple Grove Cemetery on Friday, January 22, 2016 at 2:00 PM with Mr. Jeff Hiers presiding. Memorials are suggested to Alzheimer's Research in care of the funeral home. Thoughts and memories may be shared in the online guest book at www.swaimfuneralhome.com.
