Ingalls - Vernon Lee "Bub" Denton, 79, died October 26, 2013 at Good Samaritan Center, Dodge City. He was born on February 10, 1934 in Gray County, Kansas the son of Cecil Raymond and Wilma Gertrude "Gertie" (Imel) Denton.

In 1953 Mr. Denton enlisted in the United States Army where he was stationed in El Paso, Texas. On September 5, 1954 he married Crystal Janet Frazier in Logan, New Mexico, she survives. He worked for Carl Thomas in the salvage yard in Cimarron before he and Crystal moved out to the Frazier family farm. In 1970 they moved to Ingalls where he and Crystal ran the Ingalls Coop Farm Store for many years. Mr. Denton also worked for the Gray County Road Department in Cimarron until his retirement. He enjoyed numerous hobbies in his spare time, everything from reading a good book, watching an old western movie to working on both jigsaw and crossword puzzles.


He was a member of the Ingalls Community Bible Church of Ingalls and also attended the Valleyview Bible Church.

Survivors include his wife Crystal of Dodge City, two sons Bruce and wife Valerie, Melvin and wife Denise both of Ingalls, and one daughter Patty Duncan and husband Joey of Cimarron. He is also survived by his mother Gertrude "Gertie" Denton Culver of Cimarron, five brothers Jack Denton and wife Glatha of Dodge City; Clovis Denton and wife Janette of Garden City; Ronald "Ronnie" Denton and wife Lois of Carthage, Missouri, Robert "Bob" Denton of Liberal; Richard "Butch" Denton and wife Cheryl of Carthage, Missouri and one sister Darla Kopper and husband Loren of Dodge City. He is also survived by a brother-in-law Bob Smith of Cimarron, and a sister-in-law Doris Denton of Cawker City, Kansas. He was also blessed with six grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, two sisters Donna Fay Denton, Sharon Smith and two brothers Donald "Donnie" Denton, Duaine Denton and two sister-in-laws Glenda Denton, Audrey Denton and his stepfather Albert Culver.

Funeral service will be held at Ingalls Community Bible Church on Tuesday, October 29, 2013 at 10:00 AM with Rev. Darren Rempel presiding. Burial will follow at Ingalls Cemetery in Ingalls. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel in Cimarron on Monday, October 28, 2013 from 12:00 to 8:00 PM. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of the Prairie or CASA in care of the funeral home.
