IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Vernon
Hanna
August 4, 1933 – August 2, 2020
Aubrey Vernon Hanna Jr., 86, died August 2, 2020 at Wesley Trauma Center in Wichita. He was born on August 4, 1933 in Cimarron, the son of AV Hanna and DeEtta Smith Hanna.
Vernon grew up in Cimarron and on June 3, 1951 married Emma Fay Shepard at The First Christian Church in Cimarron. Vernon began his career with the City of Cimarron as a part-time night cop and dog catcher. He later trained as a lineman for the city, worked briefly for the United Telephone Association, then returning to the City of Cimarron serving as the City Clerk, then taking the position as the City Superintendent for many years until he retired.
He was a member of The First Christian Church of Cimarron serving as a Deacon and Elder. He was involved in Christian Men's Fellowship, and in his younger years, he participated in a local calf roping club. Vernon was a 60 year member of Eastern Star #97 and a 60 year member of The Masonic Lodge #413.
Vernon had a tremendous love for farming, raising hogs, sheep, and cattle but was partial to horses. He had many pets throughout his lifetime but anyone who knew him best knew his favorite companion was his dog Jack. Jack is not a show dog but his grin and wiry hair could melt your heart.
Vernon is survived by a son, Dr. Mike Hanna and wife Jennifer of Leigh, Nebraska; two daughters, Rebecca Daniels and husband Joel and Lynette Owens and husband Brian, both of Cimarron; 10 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; two brothers, Charles Hanna and wife Phyllis of Augusta and Pastor Jon Hanna and wife Judy of Topeka; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Emma; parents; and infant son, Vernon Owen Hanna.
