JETMORE - Vernon F. Harms, 87, died December 17, 2013 at Hodgeman County Health Center, Jetmore. He was born on February 4, 1926 at Dodge City the son of John H. and Sara C. (Herzberg) Harms.
A lifetime resident of Hodgeman County. Vernon was a farmer, rancher, and dairy farmer. He loved hunting and spending time with family and friends. On October 21, 1945 he married Ruth Clydene Leighty in Dodge City. She preceded him in death on September 5, 1996.
He was a member of the Holy Cross Lutheran Church of Dodge City and the Associated Milk Producers Association.
Vernon is survived by a son, Chris Harms and wife Eileena (Buchanan) of Jetmore; son-in-law, Robert Marshall of Balko, Oklahoma; four grandchildren, Christopher Marshall and wife Cyishia (Madsen) of Beaver, Oklahoma, Sara Marshall and fiancée Landry Ogden of Hooker, Oklahoma, Angela (Fischer) Miller and husband Roger of Bedford, Texas, and Dustin Fischer and wife Tammi (Freisner) of Dodge City; eight great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Brenda (Harms) Marshall; a brother, Leonard Harms; and sister, Ruth Harms.
Funeral service will be held at Holy Cross Lutheran Church on Saturday, December 21, 2013 at 10:00 AM with Rev. Randall Jahnke presiding. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dodge City. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Home on Friday, December 20, 2013 from Noon to 8:00 PM. Memorials are suggested to Holy Cross Lutheran Church or Hodgeman County Longterm Care Center in care of the funeral home.
