VERNON C. LLOYD SR.
Dodge City - Vernon C. Lloyd Sr. died October 17, 2014 at Fort Dodge, Kansas. He was born on August 25, 1930 in Meade, Kansas the son of John C. and Maggie (Key) Lloyd.
He married Janie M. Durham on August 27, 1951, she survives. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Vernon joined the Navy in 1950 serving in the 7TH Fleet on board the USS L.F. Mason as a radio operator. He was a member of the American Legion, a life member of the VFW and the DAV, as well as a 32ND Degree Mason.
He is survived by his wife Janie of the home; three children Vernon "Skip" Lloyd and wife Debbie of Wright; David Lloyd of Smith Center and Bev Hertel and husband Dennis of Dodge City. He is also survived by eight grandchildren Shea Lynn Cook of Oskaloosa, Iowa, Tessa Lloyd of Norman, Oklahoma, Amber Lloyd of Great Bend, Kansas, April Grandclair of Hosington, Kansas, Cody Lloyd of Manhattan, Kansas, Caleb Hertel of Dodge City, Travis Lloyd of Honolulu, Hawaii and Chance Hertel of Dodge City and seven great grandchildren along with numerous nieces and nephews. Vernon's greatest joy was his family and watching KU Basketball.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters Annie Bailey and Alene Vanderpool, two brothers Kenneth and Carroll Lloyd and a grandson Cade Denton Hertel.
Funeral service will be held at Swaim Funeral Home on Monday, October 20, 2014 at 10:30 AM with Mr. Barney Korbelik C.R.E. presiding. Burial will follow at Kansas Veterans' Cemetery in Ft. Dodge. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Home on Sunday, October 19, 2014 from 12:00 to 6:00 PM. Memorials are suggested to Kansas Soldiers Home Benefit Fund or the Wounded Warrior Project in care of the funeral home.
