VINCENT CARROLL ENGELMAN
Fort Dodge - Vincent C. Engelman, 82, died November 8, 2013 at Western Plains Medical Complex, Dodge City. He was born on February 25, 1931 at Hastings, Oklahoma, the son of A.A. and Lorna (Holtzen) Engelman.
He moved with his family to Perryton, Texas, and later to Beaver, Oklahoma, where his family ranched. He grew up there and graduated from Beaver High School in 1948. He attended Northwestern State University in Alva, Oklahoma for a short time, before returning to the family ranch. He enlisted in the United States Navy and served from 1955 to 1957. On November 30, 1958, he married Susan Kay Naegele at Liberal, Kansas. Vincent was a self-employed businessman all his life, working in ranching, realestate, sales, and several other ventures. They moved near Buffalo, Kansas, living there for about eighteen years. In 1981, they moved to the Oklahoma panhandle and remained there for thirteen years. They also lived in Colorado from 1994 until 2007, when they moved to Fort Dodge.
He was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church, Meade.
He is survived by his wife, Susan Kay Engelman, Fort Dodge, four sons, Wyatt Engelman and wife Charlotte, Nathrop, Colorado; Jim Engelman and wife Chris, Lansing, Kansas; Mickey Engelman and wife Jody, Salida, Colorado; and Cary Engelman and wife Jenniffer, Sapello, New Mexico; eleven grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents, A.A. and Lorna Engelman, one sister Evelyn Heidrich, and one brother, Marlin Engelman.
Funeral services will be held at the Kansas Soldiers Home Chapel, Fort Dodge, on Friday, November 15, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Cary Engelman and Rev. Lynn Spencer presiding. Burial will follow at Kansas Veterans' Cemetery in Ft. Dodge, with military rites provided by the KSARNG and Howard Gotschall Post # 1714, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Dodge City. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Home on Thursday, November 14, 2013 from noon til 8:00 PM.
