Dodge City - Vincent Q. Martinez, 80, died April 28, 2014 at Good Samaritan Center, Dodge City. He was born on December 17, 1933 at Dodge City, the son of Jose and Juana Quesada Martinez.
A lifetime resident of Dodge City, he attended Coronado School in the Mexican Village in Dodge City. He was a veteran of the United States Army. He married Phyllis Briseno and later married Susie Carmona. He later married Georgiann Blea. She preceded him in death on March 26, 2000. He worked for over twenty years as a heavy equipment operator for Broce & Gladden Construction Companies, both of Dodge City.
He was a member of the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Dodge City.
Survivors include a daughter Sharon Llamas and husband Ramon, Dodge City, sons, Vincent Martinez and wife Veronica, Dodge City, Joel Cavin and wife Georgia,Virginia Beach, Virginia; Jerry Martinez and wife Elvira, Dodge City, brothers, Joseph Martinez, Dodge City, and Luckman Martinez, Tecumseh, Oklahoma; sisters, Kate Carmona, and Delores Garcia, both of Dodge City, and grandchildren, Ramon, Adrian, Joel, and Annia Llamas, and Daniel and Cindy Martinez. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Phillip, Manuel and Jesse Martinez, and sisters, Mary Helen Mariche, and Maria, Josefina, and Lucia Martinez.
Vigil Service will be at Swaim Funeral Home on Thursday, May 1, 2014 at 7:00 P.M. with Rev. Terrance Klein presiding. Funeral mass will be at Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe on Friday, May 2, 2014 at 10:00 A.M. with Rev. Terrance Klein celebrant.. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery, Dodge City, with military rites provided by the Howard Gotschall Post # 1714, Veterans of Foreign Wars and KSARNG Military Honors. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Home on Thursday, May 1, 2014 from 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Memorials are suggested to the Vincent Martinez Memorial Fund or to the Good Samaritan Center, Dodge City, in care of Swaim Funeral Home, 1901 6th Avenue, Dodge City, Kansas, 67801.
