Obituary

DODGE CITY - Virginia Mae (Wintamute) Shira, 82, died Tuesday, January 19, 2010 at Western Plains Medical Complex, Dodge City. She was born August 17, 1927 at Dodge City the daughter of Russell D. and Mae (Reekie) Wintamute.

She married Hughie E. Shira on February 6, 1943 at Lewis. He preceded her in death on December 19, 1993. They were long-time residents of Dodge City. Her life was full and rich with friends and a loving and caring family. She owned and operated Shira's Beauty Salon for 25 years until her retirement.

Virginia was a member of the, First Christian Church; St. Bernard Chapter #97, Order of the Eastern Star; Red Hat Society; RSVP; Depot Theater Guild; Boothill Belles and several bridge clubs all of Dodge City.

She is survived by three children; Fred J. Shira and wife Mary, Churchville, VA; Janet L. Koehn-Hessman and husband Richard, Montezuma and Sheila R. Eakin-Grayson and husband David, Dodge City. Eight grandchildren: Jack Shira and Sido Shira, Churchville, VA; Chad Koehn and family, Salina, Shannon Koehn Coleman and family, Dodge City; Matthew Koehn and Savannah Koehn, Montezuma; Amy R. Eakin and family Dodge City; Sara E. Bennett and family, Hutchinson. 11 great grandchildren, three step grandchildren and 13 step great grandchildren, sisters, Irene Roney, Sequim, WA; Lorea Rach, Woodinville, WA; brother, Warren Wintamute, Hutchinson, several nieces and nephews and special friend Don Skinner, Dodge City. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Howard and David; one sister, Marie Abrams one son-in-law Clayton C. Koehn.

Funeral service will be held at the First Christian Church, Dodge City on Friday, January 22, 2010 at 10:30 AM with Mr. Larry Williams presiding. Order of Eastern Star rites will follow the funeral servcie at the church with burial at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dodge City. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Home on Thursday, January 21, 2010 from 1:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:00 PM on Thursday at the Dodge City Masonic Lodge. Memorials are suggested to the Dodge City Bookcase Project or Depot Theater both in care of Swaim Funeral Home.
