Dodge City - Virginia Hulpieu, 85, died Thursday, October 1, 2009 at St. Anthony Central Hospital at Dever, Colorado. She was born on October 25, 1923 at Newton, Kansas, the daughter of Murl and Lucile (Mitchell) Miller. She graduated from Emporia State University with a bachelor of arts degree in teaching. On May 21, 1946 she married C. Frederic Hulpieu. He preceded her in death on March 6, 1990. She first taught at Central School of Dodge City and after she married Mr. Hulpieu, she was a volunteer teacher and homemaker for 46 years.
Virginia was a member of the Presbyterian Church and the Red Hat Society.
Survivors include a daughter, Gynia and husband C.E. Crane, III of Aurora, Colorado; a son, Gordon and wife Loree Kaleth Hulpieu of Erie, Colorado; two brothers, Lloyd Miller of Wellington, and Kenneth Miller of Wichita,; a sister, Beverly Hiebert of Newton; one granddaughter, Heather Crane of Denver, Colorado; one great granddaughter, Amelia Nelson of Denver, Colorado and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial service will be held at Swaim Funeral Home of Dodge City on Saturday, October 24, 2009 at 10:00 AM with Deacon John Ingalls presiding. Inurnment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dodge City. There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place.
