SUBLETTE - Vivian Doris Bethel, 87, died June 1, 2014 at High Plains Retirement Village in Lakin. She was born on December 2, 1926 in Copeland, the daughter of Dea Goul and Vera (Woodrow) Weeks.
Vivian was raised in Copeland and attended a country school thru the 8th grade. Vivian then boarded with a family in Garden City so she could attend high school. She graduated from Garden City High School in 1945. On February 10, 1945, she married Fred Eldon Bethel in Sublette. He preceded her in death on August 12, 1986. Family was important to Vivian , especially her grandchildren. Vivian was known to them as the "Cookie Grandma". They shared many special memories together making sugar cookies and getting to "star" the cookies.
She was a member of the Sublette Christian Church of Sublette and the First Christian Church of Lamar.
Vivian is survived by four daughters, Judy Hogan and husband George of Lakin, Linda Offill and husband Jim of Eads, Colorado, Caron Strasner and husband Max of Pueblo West, Colorado, and Debra Nidey and husband Keith of Lamar, Colorado; two sisters, Juanita Hamby of Pawhuska, Oklahoma and Vera Mae Knief of Houston, Texas; one sister-in-law, June Weeks of Eads, Colorado; nine grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren, and one great-great granddaughter. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Fred; and four brothers, Gordon, Eldon, Damon, and Edwin Weeks.
Funeral service will be held at Sublette Christian Church on Thursday, June 5, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. with Pastor David Erwin presiding. Burial will follow at Haskell County Cemetery in Sublette. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel of Sublette on Wednesday, June 4, 2014 from Noon to 8:00 P.M. Memorials are suggested to High Plains Retirement Village in care of the funeral home.
