Obituary

Dodge City- Walter Douglas "Doug" Ring, 77, died September 24, 2017 at Western Plains Medical Complex in Dodge City. He was born on March 9, 1940 in Lapeer, Michigan the son of Walter Jacob and Gertrude (Kriener) Ring.

Doug married Karen Louise Berger on November 26, 1960 in Wichita, Kansas, she survives. Doug was an assistant manager of Mammals Jack and Jill in Wichita before transferring to Hutchinson and then on to Dodge City in 1970 as the manager of the Jack and Jill Anchor Store in the new Village Square Mall.  In 1972 he started as a route driver for Western Beverage working his way up to General Manager before retiring after 35 years of service.  Doug was active in the family 4-H Program and also served as Chairman of the Ford County Fair Association for many years. Doug was also the chairman of the Dodge City Days BBQ Cook-Off for 17 years. He was honored as a Grand Marshall of the Dodge City Days Parade.

He was a member of the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe. He was a very active member of the Our Lady of Guadalupe Church serving on the parish council and property council and taught confirmation and RCIA.

He is survived by his children David and wife Leslie of Wichita; Bonnie and husband Alan Trent of Dodge City; Don and wife Sandra of Newton; Tim and wife Denise of Vassar, Kansas; Kate and husband Kyle Grant of Wichita; Jacob and companion Janell Standrich of Dodge City, eleven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings Larry and wife Sonya of South Carolina; Bob and wife Juhree of Wichita; Pat and wife Judy of Indianapolis, Indiana; Kay Neises and husband Leonard of Conway Springs, Kansas; Bill of Dodge City; Ed and wife Paula of Wichita; Mary Mengelkoch and husband Chuck of Clearwater.

Doug was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Tom.

Funeral Mass will be held at Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Dodge City on Thursday, September 28, 2017 at 10:00 AM with Rev. Wesley Schawe presiding. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dodge City. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 27, 2017 from 12:00 to 7:00 PM. A vigil service will be held at 7:00 PM Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at Swaim Funeral Home in Dodge City. Memorials are suggested to Ford County Fair Association or the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe in care of the funeral home.
