Dodge City - Wanda Alverna Cantrell, 94, passed peacefully on April 4, 2023 at Presbyterian Manor of the Plains, Dodge City. She was born on September 29, 1928 at Pleasant Plains, Arkansas the daughter of Royal Douglas and Flora Ida (Hays) Nash.

Alverna grew up in Oil Trough, Arkansas where she met and married her husband, Harold Ray Cantrell on September 25, 1943 at Newport, Arkansas. They moved to Wichita in 1952 where she worked in several Wichita Flower Shops. They later moved to Dodge City in 1969 where she owned and operated Al's Humble Flowers.

She was a member of First Southern Baptist Church of Dodge City, and past president of Soroptimist International of Dodge City.

Alverna is survived by her sons, Harold R. Cantrell, Jr and wife Suellen of Wichita and Larry E. Cantrell and wife Nancy of Olathe; six grandchildren, Travis Cantrell and Katie, Jennifer Zotti and Josh, Ryan Cantrell and Brittany, Randy Cantrell and Stephanie, Rebecca Owen and Robert, and Kristina Cagle and Matt; ten great grandchildren, Dane Cantrell, Kinsley Cantrell, Deacon Zotti, Koby Cantrell, Kathryn Zotti, Lily Cantrell, Barrett Cantrell, Camille Owen, Ethan Owen, and Mila Cagle. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harold "Ray" Cantrell; and daughter, Shelia Breeding.

Funeral service will be held at First Southern Baptist Church on Thursday, April 13, 2023 at 10:30 AM with Dr. Brian Kimball presiding.  Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dodge City.  Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel on Wednesday, April 12, 2023 from 1:00 PM to 8:00 PM.  Memorials are suggested to First Southern Baptist Church in care of the funeral home.  Thoughts and memories may be shared in the online guest book at www.swaimfuneralhome.com.
