Montezuma - Wanda E. Redger, 82, died February 27, 2013 at Bethel Home, Inc. in Montezuma. She was born on August 27, 1930 in Weatherford, Oklahoma, the daughter of Jessie and Emma (Dirks) Nightengale.
After her father's death in 1938, she moved with her mother and siblings to Montezuma. Wanda was converted and added to the Church of God in Christ Mennonite in November of 1942, remaining faithful to her faith until the end. On June 8, 1952, Wanda married Art Redger. He preceded her in death. They lived at Durham and these were happy years. While there, three children were born, Diane, Teryl, and Jay. On November 1, 1961, Art was taken from her, leaving Wanda with three small children. Later that year, they moved to Montezuma and she lived there the rest of her life. Wanda worked at the lunchroom in the Montezuma schools and later at Bethel Home for 37 years as a housekeeper. She liked her job there. In 2002, Wanda moved into the Bethel Home apartments. She really liked her apartment. In 2005, she retired from her job at Bethel Home. She worked on cross stitching and quilt blankets for her family and others. Some of her sad times were when her grandson and son passed away.
She was a member of the Church of God in Christ Mennonite-Homeland Congregation.
Wanda is survived by a daughter, Diane Peoples and husband Bruce of Weatherford, Oklahoma; a son, Jay Redger of Montezuma; two brothers, Eli Nightengale and wife Eva of Peoria, Arizona and Glen Nightengale and wife Ruby of Montezuma; and one sister, Emily Jane Giesbrecht of Rouge River, Oregon; and one grandson, Chris Maggard. In addition to her husband, Art, Wanda is preceded in death by her parents; one son, Teryl Redger; one grandson, Tracy Maggard; and two sisters, Pauline Koehn and Elizabeth Nightengale.
Funeral service will be held at Homeland Mennonite Church, Montezuma, on Saturday, March 2, 2013 at 10:30 AM with Ministers Donnie Koehn, Stuart Jantz and Sherrill Esau presiding. Burial will follow at Homeland Mennonite Church Cemetery. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel of Montezuma on Friday, March 1, 2013 from noon to 3:300 PM and at Bethel Home from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM.
