Dodge City - Wanita Mae Barnes, 71, died June 19, 2012 at her residence in Dodge City . She was born on January 24, 1941 in Dodge City, the daughter of Jeff and Anita (Drews) Andrews.
Mrs. Barnes was raised on a farm north of Dodge City and attended Center Star school thru eighth grade. Growing up on a farm, she always enjoyed harvest time especially driving the grain truck and preparing meals for the family. She married James R. Barnes on March 15, 1959 in Dodge City. Wanita was a very devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.
She was a member of the First Christian Church of Dodge City.
Mrs. Barnes is survived by her husband, James R. Barnes of the home; three sons, Steve Barnes and wife Susan of Dodge City, Kent Barnes and wife Naoma of Topeka, and Darren Barnes and wife Sherri of Inman; her mother, Anita Andrews Richardson of Dodge City; one brother, Don Andrews of Dodge City; one sister, Shirley Stateler of Dodge City; and seven grandchildren, Katrina, Matthew, Andrew, Raquel, Lucas, Logan, and Riley. Wanita was preceded in death by her father and two sisters, Delores Milton and Carolyn Haskell.
Funeral service will be held at Swaim Funeral Home in Dodge City on Thursday, June 21, 2012 at 2:00 PM with Pastor Kirk Larson and Dr. Phil Scott presiding. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dodge City. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 20, 2012 from 1:00 - 8:00 PM.
