Ft. Dodge – Wayne "Plank" Warren Hileman, 81, died October 18, 2023 at Wesley Hospital, Wichita, KS. He was born on May 8, 1942 in Dodge City, the son of Warren and Mildred (Cecil) Hileman.

Wayne married Barbara Ricks on January 28, 1972. They celebrated 51 years of marriage. The couple lived in California for a number of years before moving to Dodge City. Wayne worked as a subcontractor in construction business, and at Fort Dodge Soldier's Home in maintenance. Wayne enjoyed the simple things in life. He loved to tinker around working on classic cars, building, and working on motorcycles and Harleys. He was quite the story teller. His compassion for animals and people went beyond measure. He didn't know a stranger and took in many who had nowhere else to go. Wayne was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend.

He is survived by his daughter, Amanda Hestermann and husband Kyle of Scott City; Son, Willis Hileman of Dodge City; and seven grandchildren, Alexis, Angelica, Kaden, Graham Anthony, Nelli, and Gracie. He is preceded in death by his parents and beloved wife, Barbara.

Memorial service will be held at Swaim Funeral Chapel, Dodge City on Thursday, October 26, 2023 at 11:00 AM with Pastor Kyle Evans presiding.  Burial will follow at Kansas Veterans' Cemetery in Fort Dodge with Military Honors by the Navy Funeral Honor Detail and the SWKS Veterans Honor Guard.  There will be no visitation as cremation will take place.  In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the family in care of the funeral home.  Thoughts and memories may be shared in the online guest book at www.swaimfuneralhome.com.
