Harold “Wayne” Jackson, beloved husband, father, and friend, peacefully passed away on August 7, 2026, at the age of 87 at his home in Dodge City. He was born on October 23, 1938, in rural Atchison County, Kansas, the son of Gilbert and Leona (Rohlfs) Jackson.

Wayne spent his childhood in Muscotah and graduated from Atchison County Community High School in Effingham in 1956. He then entered the United States Army, where he proudly served as a military police officer. When he was honorably discharged, he continued his service in the Army National Guard, achieving the rank of 1st Sargent, with a total service of over 17 years. He also served for several years as Commander of American Legion Post #47 in Dodge City. He moved to Dodge City to work a construction job, it was then that he met the love of his life, Carol Jean Gergen. The two were married on May 29, 1960.

The couple made their home in Dodge City and two boys soon joined the family. Wayne worked for the Dodge City Daily Globe and Fairmount Foods delivering milk. He then went to work for Farmland Industries and retired after 35 years as Production Supervisor. His career was marked by hard work, commitment, and a deep respect for the land and the people he worked with. Wayne embodied the spirit of the hardworking American farmer, bringing both expertise and heart to his role, and he was admired and respected by his colleagues.

In life, Wayne celebrated the bonds of family and friendship. He shared a beautiful partnership with his wife, Carol, a relationship that blossomed over the years with love and laughter. Together, they created a warm and welcoming home filled with joy and cherished memories, becoming pillars of support for those around them. Wayne and Carol enjoyed time with and traveling with family and friends, including taking 47 different cruises to various ports across the world.

Wayne is survived by his wife Carol, two sons, Michael Jackson and wife Lisa of Dodge City and Randael Jackson and wife Debbie of Valley Center; four granddaughters, Cherise Taylor of Dodge City, Olivia Guthrie and husband Stuart of Wichita, Marissa Jackson and husband Trace Ratzlaff of Scottsdale, Arizona, and Chelsea Johnson and husband Brady of Beaverton, Oregon; six great grandchildren, Jordan, Alexis, and Aubree Taylor and Tayli, Tadyn, and Tacyn Ratzlaff; four siblings, Corky Jackson of Atchison, Bob Jackson and wife Peg of Muscotah, Eva Mae Schmidt and husband Greg of Topeka, and Tony Jackson and wife Judy of Lancaster. He is preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Esther Wolfe.

Funeral service will be held at Christ the King Lutheran Church, Dodge City on Friday, August 14, 2026,at 10:00 A.M. with Pastor David Johnson presiding. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dodge City with military honors by KSARNG Funeral Honors and Southwest Kansas Veterans' Honor Guard. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel, Dodge City on Thursday, August 13, 2026, from 1:00 to 8:00 PM with the family receiving friends from 4-6 PM.
