Dodge City - Wayne Russell Schroeder, 84, died August 24, 2023 at his home in Dodge City. He was born on January 27, 1939 at Davenport, Iowa the son of Russell and Mildred (Voelkers) Schroeder.
Wayne grew up in Albia, Iowa, graduating from Albia High School in 1957. On August 23, 1958, he married Janice Stewart in Albia, Iowa. Wayne proudly served his country for two years in the United States Army. Throughout his life, he worked for National by-products, Wilson foods and then Birko Corporation until his retirement.
Wayne enjoyed traveling with his family across the southern states. His favorite place to be was in New Mexico. He also enjoyed fishing and camping, as well as playing in pool leagues with two of his sons, Curtis and Corey.
He is survived by his wife, Janice Schroeder; three sons, Scott of Albia, Iowa, Curtis of Dodge City, and Corey also of Dodge City; two daughters, Shelley Freelon of Columbia, Missouri, and Terri Nichols of Ashland, Missouri; grandchildren, Davina, Shanda, Shelby, Colby, Lacey, Austin, Cody, Jerrica, Callie, Skyler, Jaycee, and Daytona; eight great grandchildren; and siblings, Sandy (Marie) of California, Sally of Iowa, Karen of Albia, Iowa, Jerry (Cathy) of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Tish (Joe) of Albia, Iowa. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Russell and Mildred; granddaughter, Alexandria; and brother in law, Gene Hoover.
Memorial service will be held at Swaim Funeral Chapel in Dodge City on Tuesday, August 29, 2023 at 11:00 AM with Tony Butler presiding. There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Memorials are suggested to the Wayne Schroeder Memorial Fund to be designated by the family at a later date in care of the funeral home.
