Dodge City - Wendell L Hargett, 77, died April 1, 2018 at Western Plains Medical Complex, Dodge City.  He was born on October 23, 1940 at Dodge City, the son of William Floyd and Minnie (Feldman) Hargett.

Wendell was the youngest of seven children. He graduated from Montezuma High School in 1958 and Dodge City Community College. He later attended Bethany College. He married Carmelita Denise Hollopeter on September 4, 1965. He managed Co-ops in Kansas, Nebraska and Oklahoma until his health deteriorated. He then worked at Offerle Co-op until he retired.

Wendell enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, and fishing at Lake Texoma with his friends and grandchildren. He also liked helping people anywhere he saw a need and loved making new friends. Wendell also enjoyed working at the race track with his son Chris, attending gospel concerts, and sharing his garden.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Denise; two sons Delwin (Andrea) Hargett, Pratt, and Chris Hargett, Dodge City; son-in-law Derek Ludlam, Wichita, two grandchildren Kathryn Ludlam, Dodge City, and Michael Ludlam, Wichita; brother Raymond Hargett, Fort Dodge, two sisters Mildred Padgett, Perryton, TX, and Glennis (Bob) Smith, Dodge City. He was preceded in death by his daughter Stacy Ludlam; his parents; three brothers Neal, Russell, and Gene; three nieces; and a nephew.

Funeral service will be held at Grace Community Church, Dodge City, on Friday, April 6, 2018 at 1:30 PM with Pastor Kirk Larson presiding.  Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Montezuma.  Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel, Dodge City, on Thursday, April 5, 2018 from 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM.  Memorials are suggested to Circle of Hope of Dodge City or Grace Community Church in care of the funeral home.  Thoughts and memories may be shared in the online guest book at www.swaimfuneralhome.com.
