Dodge City - Wesley R. "Wes" Underwood, 84, passed away on September 23, 2022 at St. Catherine Hospital in Dodge City. He was born on April 11, 1938 in Great Bend, the son of Wilbur Roy and Zazle Katherine (Wesley) Underwood.
Wes grew up on a farm in Hodgeman County. He graduated from Dodge City High School and then went on to further his education at Dodge City Community College where he received his associates degree. Wes went to work for Paul Warner Appliance. He later purchased the business and renamed it to Underwood Appliance which he operated for many years. On November 16, 1958 he married Marlene Obholz in Dodge City. Wes enjoyed spending summers in Colorado and golfing. He loved spending time with his family especially his grandchildren.
Wes was an active member of First Southern Baptist Church of Dodge City where he served as a deacon. He also served on the Salvation Army Board.
Wes is survived by his wife, Marlene of Dodge City; son, Greg Underwood and wife Robin of Dodge City; two daughters, Missi Underwood and fiancé, Carl McMillan of Concord, North Carolina and Mary Kassing of St. Louis, Missouri; grandchildren, Lindsay Bryant and husband Ryan of Dodge City, Josh Brown and wife Ally of Charlotte, North Carolina, Jonathan Brown and wife Pam of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Brooke Buckner and husband Adam of Concord, North Carolina; great grandchildren, Nora, Keegan, Jack, Rory, Lucas and Ellie; a brother, Bob Underwood; and sister, Kathy Wichen. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Coralee Craig.
Funeral service will be held at First Southern Baptist Church, Dodge City on Wednesday, September 28, 2022 at 10:30 AM with Pastor Brian Kimball presiding. Burial will follow at Greencrest Cemetery in Dodge City. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel on Tuesday, September 27, 2022 from Noon to 8:00 PM. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the Salvation Army or First Southern Baptist Church in care of the funeral home.
