WRIGHT - The Good Lord came for Wilbur Floyd Cornitius of Spearville, on Monday, March 25, 2018 in his home. Wilbur was born September 20, 1928 in Gonzales, Texas to Rupert & Cleo (Harris) Cornitius.
He married Arthurene Simmons in San Antonio, July 20, 1950. He was Sergeant First Class in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. After his military service, he settled his family in Dallas, Texas where he was a salesman and eventually owner of Cathey's Office Furniture & Supply. The success of the business was in servicing what they sold. Clients spanned across the United States, including the Dallas Cowboys Organization. His weekend occupation was farmer/rancher on his ranch in Caddo Mills, Texas where they moved to after retirement. Wilbur had a zest for life that put his family first and foremost. He was active in his church and served as Board of Directors President for Goodland Boys Home in Goodland, Oklahoma. He loved to ride horses and do aerobatics in his Piper Cub. He was an avid deer & elk hunter. When Art's health began to fail, they moved to Wright, Kansas.
Wilbur is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Rupert, his sister Margaret Elliott, his wife, Arthurene, his son Arthur Wayne, his daughter, Pamela Dawn Putman, and his granddaughter, Jill Catherine. He is survived by his son, Timothy Gavin & wife Brenda of Spearville; his grandchildren: Matthew and wife Victoria of Wright; Rebecca and husband Jason Johnson of Wright; Benjamin Cornitius of Lewisville, Texas; and Sarah Dawn Putman of Runge, Texas. Great grandchildren include Margaret Rose Cornitius, Zoe & Owen Johnson and future baby Cornitius & baby Johnson.
Memorial service will be held at the Spearville Federated Church on Saturday April 7, 2018 at 2:00 PM with Kevin Salzman presiding. Burial will take place at a later date in south Texas. Book signing will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel on Friday April 6, 2018 from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to Hospice of the Prairie or Spearville Federated Church both in care of the funeral home.
