Obituary

Montezuma -My husband, our father and grandfather, Wilbur Loyd Yost, was born on April 1, 1930 to John and Lena Smith Yost at Montezuma, in Gray County, Kansas. He went to be with the Lord on November 7, 2018 while he was in the Bethel Home at Montezuma, reaching the age of 88 years.

Dad grew up in the Gray and Haskell Counties, receiving his education at South Salem and Colusa Schools. Upon true repentance, he was baptized into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite on December 5, 1943 at Copeland, Kansas by Minister Ed Frank. He lived his Christian life with a simple, trusting faith in God. He was known by all for his quiet, humble and contented spirit, ever ready to confess his failings. We are comforted in knowing that he was faithful to the end of his journey.

On March 11, 1951, he was joined in marriage to me, Dorothy Wedel at Copeland, Kansas. He was a loving husband to me and as his wife I felt his utmost respect. To this union were born four sons and one daughter. He loved his family dearly and the grandchildren were precious to him. He was keenly interested in his children's personal salvation and many times his prayers would include those who were facing difficulties in their Christian life, mentioning grandchildren by name.

Dad was not a person of many words, but we learned much by the example and virtue of his life. He often showed his love by his good natured teasing. He was a diligent provider, not shirking the less desirable jobs in order to take care of his family. Our father was a farm laborer; he also worked at land leveling and at the Kansas State Experiment Farm near Garden City, Kansas. Fixing things brought him a real sense of accomplishment. After retirement, he enjoyed spending time in his shop. Retirement years found us thankful that we could enjoy this time of life together.

As his health declined and he needed more help and care, he entered Bethel Home nursing care May 18, 2018. He bore his weakening body patiently and without complaint. We deeply appreciate the loving care he received while there.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Dorothy; three sons: Dennis and wife Gwendolyn, St. Ansgar, Iowa; Verle and wife Christine, Norwood, Missouri; Roger and wife Ann, Vanceboro, N. Carolina; one daughter, Sheryl and husband Rodney Smith, Stacyville, Iowa; daughter-in-law, Diana, Holcomb, Kansas; 24 grandchldren, 36 great grandchildren and many friends; one brother, Arlin and wife Florence, Montezuma, Kansas and two sisters, Orreda, Livingston, California and Priscilla and husband, LeDon Harlow, Satanta, Kansas; three sisters-in-law, Jaletta; Macon, Mississippi, Wilda; Ulysses, Kansas and Inez; Iroquois, S.D.; and special friend, Alice Jantz, Livingston, California.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Mervin; daughter-in-law, Linda; four brothers and two sisters.

Funeral service will be held at Salem Mennonite Church, Copeland on Sunday, November 11, 2018 at 2:30 PM. Burial will follow at the Salem Mennonite Cemetery .
