Obituary

Scott City - William "Bill" Henry Fry, 92, entered into the Athletic and Music Departments of Heaven on October 22, 2023, surround by family. Bill was born to Lindley Ralph and Harriett (Kirkendall) Fry, on March 14, 1931 in Colorado.


After graduation from Lakewood High School, he served in the United States Navy. Bill and Sharon Dee Unger were united in marriage on February 20, 1960. In 1963, they moved to Scott City where Bill began his broadcasting career at KFLA in Scott City. He then went on to be employed by KBUF in Garden City. Bill was the "Voice of the Beavers" for 50 years. Bill built the AthletiClub in 1971 where he coached gymnastics for 40 years. Bill was inducted into the Kansas Wrestling Hall of Fame for his involvement in kids wrestling.


Bill ran marathons, triathlons and numerous 10K's. He bowled a 300 game and struggled with golf. Bill was a private pilot, enjoyed skydiving, making his last jump at the age of 80. He could sing, play multiple instruments, but was best known for his trumpet. His mission in life was sharing the love of Jesus to everyone he met through acts of kindness and love (and words). He impacted many people throughout his lifetime.


Bill never failed to tell his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren "You are such a Blessing!" Those left to carry on his legacy include: his wife Sharon; children: Keven (Pat) Fry of Katy, Texas, Doug (Cendy) Fry of Warner Robins, Georgia, Dan (Christine) Fry of Cumming, Georgia, Wendy (Tony) Watts of Montezuma, Devi (Donald) Beck of Peoria, Arizona, and Becky (Perry) Nowak of Scott City; a brother, Ralph (LeAnn) Fry of Arlington, Washington; 21 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Laura Snow, and his first wife, MaryLou.


A come and go Celebration Party in the Connections area at First Baptist Church, Scott City, will be held on Veteran's Day, Saturday, November 11, 2023 from 1:00 to 5:00 PM. Memorials are suggested to the Bill Fry Family to be donated to the High School Beaver Broadcasting Network in care of Swaim Funeral Chapel - PO Box 421 - Montezuma, Kansas 67867.
