Obituary

DODGE CITY - William "Bill" Ray Dowell, 81, died July 24, 2021 at Brookdale Senior Living, Dodge City.  He was born on April 5, 1940 at Ensign, the son of Carl and Mabel (Smith) Dowell.

William was raised on the family farm south of Ensign. Moving to Dodge City in the 1950's where he worked at Mayrath Manufacturing , Dodge City Implement, Maupin's, and Ensign Implement before retiring. He enjoyed working on John Deere tractors. Bill also had a passion for motorcycles and rode his Honda Goldwings over a million miles. He was a member of the local Goldwing Chapter for many years.

William is survived by three sons, Kevin Dowell of Millington, Tennessee; Kurt Dowell and wife Merly of Millington, Tennessee; and Kent Dowell and wife Miyuki of Richmond, Kentucky; as well as three grandchildren and two great grandchildren; brothers, Bob Dowell of Gainesville, Georgia, Kenny Dowell of Dawsonville, Georgia; and sister, Ruth Smith of Sacramento, California. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Floyd, Leroy, Wayne and Lawrence; and sisters, Nadine, Leona, and Bonnie.

Graveside service will be held at the Ensign Cemetery on Monday August  2, 2021 at 11:00 AM with Mr. Jeff Hiers presiding. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel on Sunday August 1, 2021 from Noon to 6:00 PM.  Memorials are suggested to Alzheimer's Association at ALZ.org in care of the funeral home.  Thoughts and memories may be shared in the online guest book at www.swaimfuneralhome.com.
