William "Bill" T. Tracy, 84 of Dodge City, KS died August 23rd, 2023 at Family Health and Rehab Center in Wichita, KS. He was born on February 27, 1939 in Mercer Co. Illinois, the son of Clarence and Nola (Blair) Tracy.
Bill graduated from Aledo High School with the class of 1956 he attended one semester at Western Illinois University in Macomb, IL. He married his high school sweetheart, Ilene McNeal on May 5th, 1957 at the Presbyterian Church in Millersburg, IL. He served two years active duty on the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt - Aircraft Carrier, followed by four years in the Navy Reserves, during which he started his professional life as a farmer, fireman, and banker. Bill and Ilene moved with their three children to Dodge City, KS in 1975 and he then settled into a career in agricultural and heavy equipment sales, retiring in 2007.
Bill loved camping, fishing, gardening, cooking, and going on family vacations. He loved his pets, especially his dogs and cats. He was an avid KU Basketball and St. Louis Cardinals fan. He always looked forward to watching his children participate in their school activities. Bill had a very contagious smile which everyone loved.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Aledo IL, YMCA, Optimist Club, and First United Methodist Church all of Dodge City. He and Ilene welcomed passengers as volunteers at the Amtrak train station in Dodge City.
Bill is survived by his wife, Ilene of the home; son Mike Tracy and wife Jami of Valley Center, KS, daughter Pam Boyd and husband Jason of Questa, NM, daughter Stefanie Tracy and husband Zachary Lerner of Albuquerque, NM, son Tracy Smith of Goddard, KS, son Terry Smith and wife Sherri of Wisconsin, his grandchildren, Wayland Tracy, Jackson Boyd, Phoenix and Dashiell Tracer, Courtney Ball (Jordan), Alec Smith (Natalie), Blake Smith (Hannah), Jesse and Nicholas Smith. He is also survived by his sister Mary Ann Hall of Aledo IL and sisters in law Cheri Tracy, Mary Ann Tracy, Mary Lee McAlister, all of Aledo, IL, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Nola Tracy, one son, Steven Tracy, sister, Alma Lee McInnis and two brothers Norman Tracy and David Tracy.
Funeral services will be held at Swaim Funeral Chapel in Dodge City on Monday August 28th, 2023 at 10:00 AM with Rev. Jerre Nolte presiding. Burial with full military honors by SWKS Funeral Honor Guard will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dodge City. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel on Sunday August 27th, 2023 from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM, with the family receiving friends from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM.
