Obituary

Dodge City - William Thomas Pittman "Bill" "Tom" passed away on December 28, 2021, at the age of 60 with his family by his side. Bill was born in Fort Worth, Texas, to Kenneth and Carolyn (Braswell) Pittman on January 16, 1961. Bill completed the family as their third son.  Bill (Tom) moved often as a child throughout East Texas for the ministry of his father.

At the age of 17, Bill enlisted in the Air Force. Shortly after enlisting in the Air Force, he married Vernette Tawater on September 7, 1978.  They welcomed two daughters, Randee and Lacee, while serving at Dyess Air Force Base.  The family then moved to Ramstein Air Force Base, followed by Grand Forks Air Force Base, and finally McConnell Air Force Base.  While in the military he was awarded many citations and decorations among which was the Joint Service Commendation Medal.

On March 12, 1998, he married Amanda, they welcomed three daughters, Kaitlin, Hannah, and Felicity.  Bill and Amanda shared twenty-three years of marriage until his untimely passing.  Bill found great joy in his five daughters, three son-in-laws, and five grandchildren. He will forever be the most amazing Pop P in the world to his grands!

Bill retired from the Air Force after 20 years of service. He followed in his mother's footsteps by pursuing a career in education.  He taught elementary school for several years. After receiving his Masters in Education and Administration, Bill attained the role of an elementary principal, in Winfield, Kansas, July of 2000. He was determined to make a difference in the lives of children and was a strong advocate for every family in his building. He retired as an elementary principal in 2019, in Dodge City, Kansas.

In his brief retirement, Bill purposefully invested in the lives of his daughters and grandchildren.  He happily traveled to attend school and church activities and celebrate  his family.  When he was home, he enjoyed his life on his farm with his wife Amanda. Bill was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan, he loved woodworking in his building, his annual tradition of making apple butter with his kids, and traveling. Bill passionately loved music and would sing loud and proud when working outside. He is greatly loved and sorely missed.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents Kenneth and Carolyn (Braswell) Pittman.  He is survived by Amanda Pittman, wife of the home, daughters Randee Tomlinson and husband, Stephen, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Lacee Ernst and husband, Robert, of Wichita Falls, Texas, Kaitlin Leapaga and husband, Micah, Hannah Pittman and Felicity Pittman of Dodge City, brothers Mike (Butch) Pittman of Bridgeport, Texas, and Terry Pittman and wife Vickie, of Paden, Oklahoma, grandchildren, Cash Luken Ernst, Tieghan Kole Tomlinson, Delaney Reese Tomlinson, Elisabeth Esther Leapaga, and Alaska Dawn Pittman, as well as many nieces and nephews.
